One of the most distinguished features of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is the 11 pottery ridge crest, which was installed on the nine great halls of the academy. Some are figures of characters in a play, some have series of more than ten scenes in a drama. With summering and exaggerating, the pottery ridge crests show the featured drama scene in comic series.

Construction of the chen clan ancestral hall hours Clan Temple started in the 14th year of the reign of Emperor Guang Xu of the Qing Dynasty (1888) and was completed in the 20th year of the reign (1894). It is an emotional journey of visitation, a reminder of the beauty and complexity of human history, preserved in the walls of this ancient treasure. The hall is an exquisite example of traditional Cantonese architecture, covering 15,000 square meters with 19 interconnected buildings.

It is 27.84 meters wide and 16.7 meters deep with 21 main beams and 6 carved stone columns. In front of the hall lies a stone gazebo surrounded by stone balustrades. The Gathering Hall was once a place for meeting and worship of the Chen clansmen and now it is used as an ancestral hall. It is 27.84 metres (91.3ft) wide and 16.7 metres (55ft) deep with 21 main beams and 6 carved stone columns.[2][4] In front of the hall lies a stone gazebo surrounded by stone balustrades. When the imperial exam was abolished in 1905, the academy became a practical school for members of the clan.

The island, with its Western-style cafes and gardens, provides a unique blend of cultures and eras. While looking at the stone lions, gazebo, stylobate, steps,handrail and the like, you must be surprised at the exquisite stone carvings. The gazebo in front of the gathering hall uses various techniques such as Three-dimensional Statue, High Relief, Lou Carves and so on.
